The front garden has several large established shrubs including a native jasmine, which gives out a lovely scent on summer evenings, and a large number of colorful bulbs. The back garden is almost entirely Australian native plants.
I've counted 25 species of native bird in the garden. The rainbow lorikeets are the most colorful and the magpies are the most musical. If you're from overseas, you may not be aware of the Australian magpie—it's not related to the European magpie, and other crows, and it sings beautifully. A brush turkey has built its mound in a neighboring yard and it visits occasionally to demonstrate its expertise in rearranging compost. We also get visits from a heron and an egret, which patrol the yard looking for dinner.
